High Impact Teaching Series: Primary Geography


The three sessions will develop the subject knowledge of geography subject leaders to enable them to provide an expertly planned and sequenced geography curriculum. It will build on findings from the Research Review series and will be led by the Geographical Association. Those attending the sessions will then feel confident to lead geography CPD in their own schools and further support staff.


Intended impact on practice:

  • Delegates will be confident to plan purposeful practical work that is linked to curriculum content and sequenced so that it develops pupils’ knowledge after initial explicit instruction.
  • A half day on fieldwork will develop practice in this area.
  • Delegates will feel confident to teach and plan geography and support others to do so.
  • The geography curriculum being delivered in school will be suited to the needs of Ofsted and the pupils.

Intended impact on pupil outcomes:

  • Raise standards in geography
  • Prepare pupils to succeed in geography in KS3

Intended outcomes for disadvantaged pupils:

  • A focus on vocabulary, retrieval and understanding will allow disadvantaged pupils to make accelerated progress
